A Day in the Forest!

Today was our third day of the Animal Habitat theme.  We learned all about the forest! We started out the morning in circle time, singing our “ANT song.” Then we briefly reviewed the ocean and the farm. Next, we chatted about some animals we know that live in the forest. After a brief introduction of our theme for the day, we went out to the playground. We swung across the monkey bars, played with sand with our friends and slid down the slides.

When we made it back inside, we ate our yummy snacks and then transitioned over to language circle. Before we read our book, we did our language activity. We built a forest as a class! After we reviewed what exactly is in the forest, we read our book. Our book was called, “Little Owl’s Night.” In the story, Little Owl wakes up from this daylong sleep to visit his friends and see what they are doing during the night. He wonders if they daytime is just as nice as the nighttime, but he falls asleep before he can find out. After reading the book, we watched and counted along with the “Owl song” 

After Language Circle, it was Science time! Today, we made predictions about what we thought the wind blows around in the forest. We tested a leaf, rock and an owl’s feather. After investigating and observing, we recorded what we saw. We discussed why the leaf and the owl’s feather moved and the rock did not move. It was because of the rock was too heavy and the wind was not strong enough.

We got to make our very own owl today for art! We glued on feathers and even real leaves to our owl’s tree. They were so cute!

After already so much fun today, we played in centers. We got to choose the kitchen, Legos, play dough, a sand/animal sensory table or matching animal’s to their habitats. We had a fANTastic day learning all about the forest!
