We started off our morning singing the "Seasons Song" as we reviewed our "Wheel of Seasons" board. We briefly talked about our theme for the day, summer. A few of us mentioned what we think of when we hear summer. Next, we went outside to play on the playground and feel the hot summer sun. We made sandcastles, played in the tunnels and climbed on the animals.
After getting hot and sandy on the playground, we came inside to cool off and have a snack. Once we ate our snack, we were ready for language circle. "Let it Shine" was our book for the day. The story is about a group of kids and their parents enjoying all that summer has to offer, from building sandcastles on the beach to eating hotdogs at a cookout. After reading our book about summer, we "built summer" by remembering things from the book we saw. The kiddos took turns adding our new vocabulary to the summer picture!
During Science, we made Fireworks in a jar. We poured vinegar and cooking oil in the jar. We each smelled the vinegar. It smelled stinky! Then we dropped a colored ice cube in the jar and watch it move around in the vinegar. It was so much fun! After we watched it move around, we wanted to see what would happen if we shook it up. The bubbles went crazy!
Art was after Science and we painted beautiful paintings using water color and saltwater. We learned that there is salt in the ocean. We got a little messy but we still had fun. We shared colors with our friends and even mixed them together.
Today during Centers we built the longest train track we have ever built! We shared our trains with each other. We also played in our sensory sandbox, read books, and played in the kitchen with our friends cooking up some summer favorites!
