The Awesome Ants had a great day learning about the ocean. We started off the morning with an introduction to animal habitats and we sang our Ant Song! Next, we made our way to the playground where we played in the sandbox, on the monkey bars and with our beach ball!
After our time outside we read the book, "The Rainbow Fish" by Marcus Pfister. In the book we talked about Rainbow Fish's habitat and what other animals lived in the ocean. We learned that rainbow fish had a hard time giving away his beautiful scales to his fishy friends in the ocean. After Rainbow Fish talked to his friend the octopus he felt a lot better about sharing his scales with his fishy friends. After the book, ,we sorted items which belonged in the ocean and items that did not belong in the ocean.
During science we investigated to see if items in the ocean would float or sink. We each took a turn putting an object in the water to see if it would float or sink. After we had a turn putting our object in the tub of water we would wait and see if it would sink or float. We put sea shells in the water, rocks, sticks and fish. We really enjoyed playing in the water and investigasting what would float or sink in the ocean!
During art we made our very own Rainbow Fish! We had many diferent colored scales to put on our rainbow fish during art. We decorated our colorful fish with pieces of tissue paper and glued them to our very own rainbow fish!
After art we played at centers in the kitchen, sensory table, legos and play dough area! The sensory table and the play dough area was a big hit!
