Before we read our book of the day, we discussed what we could build with construction machines. During Language Circle, we read "Tip Tip Dig Dig," which tells a story of a group of construction trucks that decide to clean up a messy field. After the digger dug and the mixer mixed, they ended up with an adventure playground.
After reading our book, we matched the machine to it's action on our language board. We even acted out the motions and made machine noises. Next, we sang our "machine song" that we learned earlier this morning and listened to another one just for fun!
Today during Science, we raced construction trucks down a ramp! First, we guessed which truck would go the fastest. We dipped their tires in paint and then let them go down the ramp. After making more tracks on the papers and racing our trucks down the ramp, we discussed some of the possibilities why the yellow truck was the fastest. Were the tires big or small? Was the truck big or small? Was the truck it light or heavy?
During Art, we made dirt our of shaving cream and sand! We talked about how dump trucks hold dirt and rollers made dirt flat. After mixing the shaving cream and sand together, we got to run construction trucks through it, making tire tracks in the dirt.
After Art, we got to play in Centers. We made tracks with machines in our construction site sensory bin, built cars with our legos, and built train tracks with our friends and even danced to the music. We had a wonderful 1st day of Construction.
DON'T FORGET to spend lunch with us tomorrow for Parent's Day!
