COLORS Center Time


This week, with "Colors," we will incorporate communication skills during our center time.


Kitchen: The kitchen area will be open and will have many different colored foods and kitchen supplies.
  • Communication Goals: engage in symbolic play, name objects, increase vocabulary, interact with peers



Legos: Various colors of Legos to incorporate color identification during play
  • Communication Goals: Name colors, describe position (in, on, under, etc.) of Legos. Use fine motor skills to pick up and connect them together. 



Sorting Pom-Poms with clothespins: Use clothespins to pick up the Pom-poms and sort into correct cups. Clinician will model an example. 

  • Communication Goals: Ask for help when needed, fine motor skills, practice sequencing. 



Trains: Provide different trains and tracks for active and social play. 
  • Communication Goals: Fine motor skills, use words to describe actions, interaction with peers, sharing. 



Playdough: Provide different playdough colors. 
  • Communication Goals: Answer questions about similar colored objects. Increase length of utterance and vocabulary.








There will also be some cues available in the classroom. 
  • Written cues: Picture cards with name of each color seen in activities 
  • Visual cues: Real photos of various fruits, kitchen objects and Venn diagram for hints on colors
  • Literacy: Various books about colors available for reading 
  • Graphic Organizer: We will use a Venn diagram to separate the different objects seen during center by color
